Recent Updates and News
The Karnataka government is making big changes to the ration card system to make sure only the right people get the benefits. Recently, officials found that nearly 14 lakh Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration cards were being used by people who actually do not qualify. Out of these, about 12.79 lakh cards belonged to families earning more than ₹1.2 lakh per year, and around 24,000 were held by government staff. Now, the government is cancelling these cards so that the ration support reaches families who truly need it.
Our Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, has said clearly that only the cards of people who are not eligible are being cancelled. Those who really deserve the ration benefits do not have to worry. But, because of these changes, the process for new ration card applications may become more strict.
